The History of Plaster

Posted: December 16, 2010 in Uncategorized

We start our history from the Plasterer’s Bible “Plastering Plain and Decorative,” a large book written by William Millar, a Scotsman Master Plasterer, cement expert and modeler, written in 1897.

The book is still in use today although it has had many revisions (this is the original edition). However due to the current shortage of material on traditional plastering techniques, we are showcasing information from the original book together with photos and plates of plastering techniques.

Millar’s book is now a classic describing the state of the art plastering during the Victorian and Edwardian era, and also providing the history of the craft going back to BC times.
